Earlier this month, boutique/gallery Revolver opened shop at 136 Fillmore, bringing its handcrafted apparel and singular wares to the Lower Haight. We’re posting a more extensive blurb than usual today to profile this new addition to the neighborhood.

An update on our recent post about the sudden closure of Roland’s Bakery on Haight Street:
We’ve now received official word that the shop is indeed closed for good. Due to a dispute with the landlord, the much-loved bakery will not be returning to its location in the Lower Haight. Instead, it will migrate to a bigger space in Hayes Valley — specifically, the corner of Hayes and Gough previously occupied by Essencia, where it will reportedly rise from its delicious ashes in a new incarnation as “Terra Bakery and Cafe.”
Co-owner Jenn Westmoreland explains to us via email that the new Rolan– err, Terra, will “be opening around the middle of April” and “is going to feature all of Roland’s original baked goods and bagels, with a[n] updated and improved menu.” And, in a big development, Terra “will also now be serving dinner as well as beer and wine.”
While we’re admittedly intrigued by the idea of an extended menu, more than anything we’re just excited to have our sweet, buttery Roland’s back. We’ll consider the extra hike to/from Hayes Valley an unexpected opportunity to burn off the carbs.
CommentsWhen our favorite New Mexican eatery, Green Chile Kitchen, relocated to McAllister and Baker last November, we were left to wonder what would take its place. Four months later, we finally have our answer.
Introducing Chile Pies (& Ice Cream), an offshoot of G.C.K. that opened on Wednesday, serving up both sweet and savory delicacies with a distinctly New Mexican flavor. The menu, which will likely rotate with the seasons, currently includes such creations as Lemon Buttermilk Pie, Peach Galette, Frito Pie, and the signature — wait for it — Green Chile Apple Pie with Walnuts and a Cheddar Crust Served a la Mode with Red Chile Honey Drizzle.
Yeah.
If pies ain’t your thing, they also have ice cream, including soft serve from Straus Family Creamery, organic flavors from our buddies Three Twins, and vegan varieties from Mission-based Cafe Gratitude. There’s organic coffee, too.
True, Chile Pies is at Baker and Fulton, which isn’t exactly the Lower Haight. But next time you’ve got a hardcore hankering for pie, or a homesick houseguest from Albuquerque, we think it’s worth the stroll.
CommentsOK folks, it’s time for this week’s edition of Where in the LH. Anybody know where these little monsters live?

Tonight, Duboce Park Cafe will be hosting a live music showcase featuring indie acts Mr. Andrew, Paperboat, Ash Reiter, Brittain Ashford, and Adam Balbo. The show starts at 7:30pm, but get there early for happy hour and you just might have yourself the cheapest date night ever.
CommentsHappy birthday to our little-known, media-shy, not-at-all-polarizing congresswoman Nancy Pelosi, who turns a pretty shocking 70 years old today.
Say what you want about the lady, but she knows how to get sh*t done. We can only hope to be so productive when we’re septuagenarian. Heck, we can only hope to be septuagenerian.
Keep up the good work repping the 8th, Speaker. Hope you got the pool table.
CommentsMuch to our dismay, not every website recognizes the Lower Haight as a legitimate neighborhood (we’re looking at you, OpenTable). But Craigslist, our good neighbor in the Inner Sunset, has always had our backs. So today, we were more than a little happy to notice that Craigslist has made its neighborhood search functionality easier — you can now search multiple areas simultaneously.
Along with the existing search criteria like price range, cat/dog friendly, and “has image,” you can now click a [+] sign to reveal a list of neighborhoods to help you focus your search. The feature appears to be active across most areas of the site, including real estate, jobs, and personals.
Of course, you already know that the Lower Haight reigns supreme in any given category — but now you can easily prove it with a single search. Good job, Craigslist. We won’t even ask what took so long.
CommentsThe Lower Haight Art Walk is set to return next Friday, April 2nd, from 7 – 10pm.
More than 20 local shops and restaurants between Webster and Scott will be keeping their doors open late with live music, art, drinks, and discounts. It’s a great way to explore the Lower Haight, mingle with neighbors, and get yourself a little culture all at the same time. Oh, and did we mention it’s free?
CommentsWe’re not sure what we’ve done to deserve this cosmic convergence of carbs, but the planets have aligned to bring us free Ben & Jerry’s ice cream and Starbucks pastries today.
The Starbucks deal is only valid in the morning, and it’s kinda complicated. You have to print a coupon (or load it up on your phone), bring it into a Starbucks before 10:30am, order a drink, and they’ll give you a free pastry. Try it at the Church and Market location, or any of the other million Starbuckses in the city.
The Ben & Jerry’s deal, on the other hand, is simple: free cones from 12-8pm. Not bad for a day that’s supposed to hit 70. The only catch, of course, is that you have to venture into the Upper Haight.
CommentsFirst reported tonight by the Noe Valley SF blog and quickly confirmed in a tweet by the Chihuahua him-/herself, our favorite local Mexican joint will soon be opening a second location in Noe Valley.
Aiming for a May launch at 4123 24th St (between Diamond and Castro), owner Andrew Johnstone promises “the same menu and format” as the Divis location, with a bigger space and expanded brunch menu. Congrats to the L.C. on the expansion, and to our friends in N.V. on the impending deliciousness!
