You can’t officially call yourself a Lower Haighter until you know Zahra from Cafe International. The East African native has been running the cafe at 508 Haight Street since 1992, doling out wisdom, wisecracks, and plenty of coffee along the way.

Yes, it’s that time of year again. Bay to Breakers rolls through the city tomorrow morning, and this year — the 100th running/rolling/stumbling — promises to be an interesting one.
With alcohol, floats, pets, strollers, bicycles, grocery carts, kegs, bottles, and public drunkenness officially banned this year, organizers are hoping for a cleaner, safer, soberer race than ever.
